Technique #21
Technique #21

1. Use a damp sponge to wipe off any dust on the bisque.
2. Using an appropriate brush, apply 3 coats of FN302 Ivory Cream to the rooster, including legs. Do not cover the eyes, beak or comb.
3. When dry, apply one heavy coat of CN212 Bright Taupe to the entire glazed area. Allow the underglaze to dry, then wipe back the color using a damp sponge. Be sure to leave the taupe in the detail of the rooster, including the legs and feet. Work quickly and do not rub too much or you will remove the glaze underneath.
4. Apply 3 coats of Really Red to the comb (red parts on rooster)..
5. Apply one coat of CN021 Light Saffron to the beak. When dry use a liner brush to add a solid line of the same color to the division between the upper and lower beak.
6. Apply 1 heavy coat of CN253 Black to the eyes. Use a toothpick or other sharp object to remove just a dot of color from the eye, or add a dot of FD258 White as an accent.
7. Cover all the grassy area with one heavy coat of CN172 Bright Kelp. Wipe back, leaving color only in the detail areas. When dry, paint two coats of Light Kelp over cleared area. This gives you the light and dark look to the grass. When dry, cover all the grass with 3 coats of Clear Satin glaze. (We made the mistake of using glossy glaze.) The rest of the rooster does NOT need to be glazed..
8. When dry, either dryfoot or stilt and fire to cone 06.
