Technique #11 ~
Duncan's Pumpkin Technique
You will need an appropriate cone 04 bisque
pumpkin (we used Duncan's Pumpkin Bowl DM392) and the following Duncan
products:
EZ024 Royal Blue Green - EZ Strokes underglaze CN022
Bright Saffron - Concepts underglaze for bisque CN042 Bright Papaya -
Concepts underglaze for bisque CN282 Bright Brown - Concepts underglaze for
bisque SN351 Clear - Satin Glaze Soft fan brush |
 Duncan Technique #11
|
Use a damp sponge to wipe inside and outside of
pumpkin and lid, removing any clay dust that was left inside. Thin and roll
Bright Saffron inside pumpkin and lid. Use a damp sponge to wipe off any excess
on outside of pumpkin. Thin Royal Blue Green with water. Using fan brush
coat entire pumpkin, then wipe back the color with a damp sponge, cleaning the
sponge often in fresh water.
Using a fan brush, apply 2 coats of Bright
Papaya to outside of pumpkin and lid, and 2 coats of Bright Brown to stem.
Allow color to dry between coats.
Apply 2 coats satin glaze over entire
pumpkin and lid. When dry, use a damp sponge to remove glaze from bottom edge
of pumpkin lid so lid can be dry-footed during firing. Stilt pumpkin bottom and
fire both pieces to cone 06.
