Ceramics Insider Tip
Hi...to add interest to my nautical pieces, I will stir in
aquarium gravel and apply where I think it will look good after the last coat
has been applied before firing. This also works great on pre-glazed tiles from
Home Depot or anywhere pre-glazed tiles are sold. And one other thing...works
really well for building a "scene" that needs to look woodsy or for "stream"
beds. Like with otters done in non fired acrylics. The combination of non
firing and glazed rocks really makes the piece eye catching. I am really
sold on the many ways aquarium gravel can be used on ceramic pieces and I think
that anyone giving it a try will be pleased. Also, might as well throw this in
while I'm here, I have fired colored glass (small or crushed) on ceramic tile
and found if fired at just the right temp it is awesome. I am trying for the
jewel look for nativity sets for the wiseman. Or whatever happens to catch my
fancy. I have worked with glass and stone together but have not perfected it
yet
