New Glazes

Creative Glazes is pleased to announce that we now have most of the new Duncan non-toxic glazes in stock. These glazes replace some of the old leaded glazes that are being discontinued. They can be found on the Envisions page of our website. Look for the 'NEW' notices.

In addition, we have added 11 Series 2000 Gloss glazes from Mayco to our growing inventory. If you haven't looked at Mayco's non-toxic line of glazes lately you owe it to yourself to do so. These colors are rich and vibrant and perform very well on cone 04 bisque.Look for the 'Just added' notices for the colors we've just brought in. We will be adding more as inventory space allows.

New Stamps

Creative Glazes now carries the Mayco Mini Stamp Kit! This new kit comes with its own carry case, 10 mini stamps and a stylus for precise stamping. Very cool kit.

Maintenance

If you have a kiln you know how important it is to keep your shelves covered with kiln wash. But, did you know that dry kiln wash can be hazardous to your health? Once you have applied kiln wash to your shelves and they have been fired the dust can be dangerous for you to breathe. So, when you need to do maintenance on your kiln shelves here are a few simple ideas to help maintain a healthy environment.
If you must remove any kiln wash use a putty knife, or something similar, to scrape the kiln wash off the shelf. DO NOT vacuum up the dust from the shelf. Instead, use a damp paper towel to wipe away any dust or leftover bits of dried kiln wash.

In the course of moving your shelves be careful not to 'dust' your hands off if they get dusty. Instead, again, use a damp paper towel to wipe away any dust.

Never apply kiln wash to the bottoms of your shelves. The dried dust can fall down and land on your glazed pieces below causing unsightly blemishes that are very hard to fix.

Ordinary vacuum cleaners do not have the proper type of filter to pick up kiln wash dust and keep it in the vacuum cleaner. Kiln wash dust is so fine it goes right through a regular filter and is suspended in the air where it can be breathed-in and deposited in your lungs. This can eventually lead to lung problems. So, just be cautious and avoid this problem
