Sometimes the most beautifully planned or painted design just
seems to lack that little something extra that POP that makes it catch
the eye. Imagine you've painted a simple, but elegant, white plate with a
yellow-gold rim. Pretty, but not exciting. Take that plate and flick it with
bright drops of orange to liven up the surface. Then flick in another direction
with black. You've changed that plate from boring to interesting with just a
few flicks of paint.
Flick paint in any way you'd like. Use the Mayco
RB150 Splatter Brush for various sized flecks of color or use a toothbrush and
your finger for super fine flecks of color. Or you can use that spray bottle
you bought for the Concepts and Courtyards technique you learned a few years
ago. Or use a sea sponge for another look. Try different methods for different
looks.
The really fun part is that there are so many ways to make your
project POP. Flick one color glaze over another. Or flick Concepts underglaze
over a matching or contrasting glaze. The color choices are endless. Imagine
how Bright Wine Concepts flicked over Cherry Blossoms crystal glaze would look.
Doesn't that sound yummy?
NOTE: When combining glazes with Concepts
ALWAYS be sure that your glaze is non-leaded. Leaded glazes expand and contract
at different rates than non-leaded glazes and could cause the piece to crack or
the glaze to crackle. Never mix leaded and non-leaded glazes on the same
piece.
Old fashioned glazes (such as Duncan's GL and AR or Mayco's CG
and E glazes) might not mix well with other old fashioned glazes due to the way
lead and copper react to one another, so non-leaded glazes are the best to use
when experimenting with flecks.
