I have found that hard pastels used with a stipple brush work
wonderfully on non-fired pieces for making rosy cheeks or other
shading.

The general rule is "Do not mix leaded and unleaded (non-toxic)
glazes on the same piece."
These two types of glaze expand and contract
at different rates (expansion coefficient). If applied to the same piece of
bisque this expansion and contraction can cause the glaze to crackle, ruining
all your hard work. In extreme cases it can even cause the bisque to crack and
break. No one wants to ruin a piece they have worked hard to make, so just
remember, leaded or non-toxic glaze both inside and outside the vase.
The only exception to this rule is the use of the clear glaze GL612.
This glaze has trace amounts of lead and can be used with leaded and unleaded
or non-toxic glazes.
