Here is an interesting idea for adding a bit of texture to your
plain greenware piece. First, if you'd like the piece to be a color, paint the
entire piece with 3 even coats of Cover Coats underglaze, allowing the paint to
dry between coats. Then, mix just enough vinegar with another color Cover Coats
to make a thick consistency. Cover Coats are clay based. When vinegar is added
it causes the paint to thicken so it will stay in place where you apply it and
since you are painting on greenware it will adhere very well.
Paint the
thickened Cover Coats on the greenware or use an eye dropper to create bumps
and wavy lines. The thickened Cover Coats paint creates a raised pattern. Try
this for clouds, trees, flowers, borders, etc. Your imagination is the only
limit to what you can try with this neat technique!
Another technique -
Apply three coats of underglaze to greenware. When dry, drop alcohol randomly
over the greenware. The alcohol creates a look like halo circles. Fire to cone
04. Apply clear glaze and fire to cone 06. UPDATE - THIS ALCOHOL TECHNIQUE DOES NOT
WORK!
Here's hoping that 2006 will be your best year ever!
