Ceramics Insider Tip - Wet Teabags
We read an article in a recent copy
of Australian Ceramics and Pottery Annual, which told of an interesting effect
using wet teabags fo antiquing (fired) crackle glazed pieces. Here is the basic
technique from the article:
1. Apply three smooth coats of crackle glaze
to your bisque. piece. Allow to dry thoroughly.
2. When dry, stilt and fire
to cone 06.
3. Remove the piece from the kiln and allow to sit and crackle
for a day.
4. Wash with watered down acrylics OR rub with a wet tea bag for
a subtle aged effect.
The color from the acrylics or the tea bag creates
a mottled or slightly age-stained effect. We think this is a great look for
your (fired) crackle glazed pieces. With all the new tea flavors out there we
can even imagine using a green tea teabag or a nice raspberry teabag for other
color effects. Try some experiments and let us know your results. For the
