Ceramics Insider Tip ~ Using EZ Strokes - Part 2
Part 1 can be found on
the Creative Glazes website in the June 20th issue:
http://www.creativeglazes.com/newsletter.htm
Have you ever tried
painting EZ Strokes on greenware? This is a great Technique!
Pick a plate
to start, then choose a pattern, pears and leaves for example. Always mix a bit
of water in with your EZ Strokes, just as you would with watercolors.
Using your favorite sized brush, (remember - the bigger the brush, the
better!) paint the pears using yellow and orange - EZ004 and EZ034 - then
detail with touches of deep gold EZ005. Paint the leaves using your choice of
greens. (This is one technique where the use of stencils makes it even quicker
and easier!)
Now, take a nice color like teal ~ EZ042 and wash it over
the background of the entire plate using a swirling motion of your brush, right
up to the leaves and pears. When the paint is dry use your liner brush to add
black detail to your pears and leaves, outlining and adding dots to one side of
your pears.
Now, you'll add the magic touch. Pull out your handy-dandy
sgraffito tool and carefully - but artistically! - draw/scratch lines next to
your black outlines - not all the way around each item, just accenting it. Draw
(scratch) swirling squiggle lines all over your teal background, too. Remember,
everywhere you use your tool will be white in the final piece. When you're
happy with your detailing, fire to cone 04. Later, cover with IN1001 or GL612
and fire to cone 06.
As always, don't just follow our instructions -
experiment with your own designs (grapes? oranges? cherries?) and colors. Make
each project your own.
