Insider Tip "Interesting Alcohol Effect" This is a fun easy technique you can
use to create interesting effects such as brocade capes (on your wisemen?) and
other rich looking fabrics. On bisque, paint a small area with E-Z Stroke
underglazes. While the paint is still wet, use an eyedropper to drip alcohol
onto the paint (just one drop). It will spread outward, making an interesting
pattern in the paint. When the alcohol stops moving, paint underglaze on your
next section and repeat until the entire piece is covered. The total effect
will be exciting and beautiful. Try
it!

* Using
Unleaded Glazes If you are used to using leaded glazes you will notice a big
difference in your results when using a non-leaded glaze. First, your glaze
will not run, or flow, as much as you are used to. This is actually an
advantage as you can be assured your glaze will not run off the bottom of the
piece again! Another advantage is that unleaded glazes work beautifully when
painted against each other (glaze butting). There are two minor disadvantages
of non-leaded glazes compared to leaded glazes. First, you must be particularly
careful about the surface of your bisque as defects will show up more readily
through a non-leaded glaze. Second, you must be more careful with your
brushtrokes. Use smooth even brushstrokes to make a nice smooth finish on your
fired piece. Smooth even brushstrokes will keep you from seeing the lines of
each stroke which takes away from the beauty you are creating.
